What is In Honor and Hope for Breast Cancer Awareness?

The "In Honor and Hope for Breast Cancer Awareness" Project was started last year by me as a new way to raise funds for our local Ashland County Cancer Association, a non-profit that is funded by United Way of Ashland County, Mohican County Community Fund, and donations.  Those funds are used to help people with cancer every month by giving them some reimbursement for medicine and transportation to medical care.  However, the staff of one and volunteers also are there every day offering educational materials, information, an ear to talk to, and many many more countless hours for little pay.  The most common patient that contacts the ACCA and is provided services are breast cancer patients, about 40% of all patients.

In its second year, the projects started out with an "express yourself for honor and hope" arts contest in which the community can enter any kind of art or craft items that have a breast cancer awareness, pink, relaxation and care for yourself, etc. theme.  There was also a bra challenge, where women could decorate bras in a theme to support womanhood and what so many lose during their fight with breast cancer.

After the contest, we had a luncheon with the Chamber for Women and Business in which all women in the community are invited.  We had several speakers and announced the awards for the contest. Then, the contest entries were auctioned off, along with other donations, in the In Honor and Hope for Breast Cancer Awareness silent auction that is part of the Taste of Ashland fund-raiser for the ACCA.
